LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EVENTS
Leadership Development Events (LDEs) are competitive activities organized by the Future Farmers of America (FFA) that focus on enhancing essential leadership skills for various agricultural careers. These events provide students with valuable experiences that promote teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. By participating in LDEs, students can discover their leadership potential, gain important insights, and build confidence, ultimately enriching their educational journey and preparing them for future achievements in the agricultural sector.
At El Capitan FFA, students have numerous opportunities to compete as apart of an LDE either team or individually throughout the school year. Below are the LDEs offered within the program.
Parliamentary Procedure
The purpose of this contest is to encourage students to learn to effectively participate in a business meeting and to assist in the development of their leadership skills.
Objectives – Students will be able to: Use parliamentary procedure to conduct an orderly and efficient meeting.

Demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary law. Present a logical, realistic and convincing discussion. Record complete and accurate minutes.
Creed
The purpose of the Creed Speaking Career Development Event is to
develop the public speaking abilities as well as develop their self-confidence
In creed speaking you recite the FFA creed from memory as an individual then answer questions based on the creeds meaning and content
Impromptu
The purpose of the Impromptu Public Speaking is to develop the speaking abilities of FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and leadership development
Students will develop the valuable The primary purpose of the event is to demonstrate the student’s ability with limited preparation time to compose and deliver coherent and focused oral presentations.



Extemporaneous
Extemporaneous Public Speaking is designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given agricultural
subject without having prepared or rehearsed its content in advance
The event requires students to think on their feet, state their case quickly and persuasively, and to be able to answer relevant questions based upon their presentation.
Prepared
The purpose of the Prepared Public Speaking is to develop the speaking abilities of FFA members as well as develop their self confidence and contribute to their advancement in interpersonal skill attainment and leadership development.
Students write and deliver a six to eight-minute speech about a current agriculture-related topic.
