“If you’re not selecting for it, you’re selecting against it.” - Kent Parker
My philosophy is that teaching agriculture isn’t just an occupation; it is a lifestyle. It goes beyond the typical 9-to-5 job, making it unique and special. As an agriculture teacher, I believe it’s essential to be mindful of the qualities and traits you value, actively working to promote and encourage those traits to flourish. If you are not consistently promoting, practicing, exemplifying, demonstrating, or teaching a trait, it will inevitably disappear—whether in a program, its students, livestock, family, or even yourself.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and traveling with my family. I also make it a priority to visit many of my students at college, no matter the distance, because I want them to know my support doesn’t end when they leave high school. I genuinely invest in my students, striving to help them succeed in whatever path they choose. I am proud to be an agriculture teacher and even prouder of the students I have had the privilege of helping along the way. To ensure their success, I continually research industry standards and encourage my students to excel and explore new interests through classes, SAEs, and leadership opportunities.
